The Let’s Go See Reading Initiative was launched at Dover Park Primary School this week, with Joe Robertson MP attending alongside pilots and co-founders Rob Johnson and Mike Midgen.
Through this project, every Year 2 child on the Isle of Wight will receive three Let’s Go See books, along with teacher and parent toolkits and classroom activities, to help make reading part of everyday life. Early literacy is critical: nationally, 26% of children leave primary school without reaching expected reading levels, and on the Isle of Wight, literacy levels are below the national average.
Mr Robertson said, "I enjoyed visiting Dover Park Primary School for the launch of the Let’s Go See Reading Initiative. Initiatives like this give children the resources and confidence to enjoy reading from an early age. Thanks to Rob and Mike for launching this project and helping children across the island develop a love of reading."
