Local memories and community heritage came together in St Helens as part of the ‘Play in the Bay’ project, celebrating the village’s sporting past.
The project highlights landmarks such as the historic ‘Parliament Seat’ overlooking the cricket square, originally a tree near the old pavilion that was felled around 1890 and later restored in the 2020s with support from the St Helens Historical Society. It also brings together personal stories from residents who remember the area’s rich history.
Joe Robertson MP said, “Good to chat to St Helens residents, Barbara and ‘Bilko’ Dyer, as part of the ‘Play in the Bay’ project, which celebrates local sporting history, including the positioning of the 'Parliament Seat' overlooking St Helens’ cricket square. I enjoyed chatting and hearing stories from ‘Bilko’ and reminiscing about growing up in the Village many many years before I did!”
