Joe Robertson MP welcomed Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch and Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride to the Island for a series of visits focused on small business, local infrastructure, and community regeneration.
The visit began in Ryde, where the group met with residents and local business owners - particularly those in tourism and hospitality to discuss the ongoing pressures facing small enterprises. Concerns around high ferry costs and unreliable timetables were a key issue raised.
“Kemi Badenoch echoed our call for urgent changes to how ferry services are operated, having heard first-hand the challenges they pose for both businesses and residents,” said Mr Robertson.
The group then visited Mermaid Gin, a standout Island success story now celebrating its 10th year. This was followed by a stop in Sandown to discuss urban regeneration efforts, before concluding at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, where they met Balu and Benji, two recently rehomed rescued bears.
Joe was also joined by Donna Jones, Conservative candidate for Mayor of the South East, as part of a wider conversation on regional support for the Island.
