Joe Robertson recently visited the Isle of Wight Distillery, where he met with Conrad, Charity, and Xavier to discuss the growing challenges faced by local businesses, particularly in light of rising costs.
During the visit, Joe and the team addressed the implications of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) changes, a policy designed to enhance recycling and waste management. While the initiative aims to improve environmental sustainability, Robertson expressed concerns that the changes could unintentionally penalize businesses, particularly those with a strong record of recycling and environmental responsibility.
“These new regulations, while well-intentioned, risk becoming a blunt instrument that disproportionately impacts those businesses that are already doing their part for the environment,” said Joe. “It is crucial that any changes to the system take into account the realities businesses face and ensure that those committed to sustainability are not unfairly burdened.”
The visit underscores Joe's ongoing efforts to support local businesses and advocate for policies that promote both environmental responsibility and economic growth.
