Tourism and hospitality businesses on the Isle of Wight are facing growing pressure as rising costs and high taxes continue to bite.
Island businesses, including small hotels, guesthouses, pubs and restaurants, have been warning that increasing overheads are making it harder to remain viable, particularly in a sector that is central to the Island’s economy.
Joe Robertson MP said, “We need to do more to support our tourism and hospitality sectors. I’ve been hearing from too many Island businesses that are feeling the pressure and struggling with rising costs.
At a cross-party meeting with the Minister, my message was simple: please cut taxes to support businesses, not increase them. UK tourism already faces some of the highest tax rates in Europe, and that’s particularly damaging for the Isle of Wight.”
