The challenge of a growing skills and workforce gap on the Isle of Wight was highlighted as Joe Robertson MP spoke at the opening of the Inclusive Island event.
Hosted by Marnie Janaway in partnership with the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, the event brought together local stakeholders to address barriers to employment. Despite a working-age population of around 85,000, fewer than 60,000 are currently in employment, while an estimated 2,000–3,000 vacancies remain unfilled at any one time. Discussions focused on shifting the Island from a jobs shortage to tackling a shortage of skills and people.
Joe Robertson MP said, "Good to speak at the opening of the Inclusive Island event hosted by Marnie Janaway with Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and Isle of Wight Youth Trust. I look forward to hearing about the specific outcomes from the day."
